I am looking for information on Grove St. John in the Sisseton records. Can anyone assist me with any leads about him and a relative by the name of Hears The Voice? SZ

The name sounds familar to me and most of the StJohn families are from the Sisseton or Crow Creek reservation. I will check the information I have and post it.

sherwynz, There was a Grover St John that lived here in the Fort Thompson area. Here is how his family goes as per my parents memory: Father - Cleveland St John Mother - Phoebe (Ear) St John Son - Grover Son - Alfred Son - Norman Son - Roland
Hope this helps you. sandyh

Tamara and Sandyh, Thanks for your response. Was there another Grover or Bolter St. John? There may be more than one Grover or Bolter. SZ

On a baptism record for my Grandfather Oscar, his father is listed as Joseph Goodteacher with parents Peter St John and Anna Tohazadan Joseph was the Reverand Joseph Goodteacher I haven't esearched this side because someone said the goodteachers are'n on the census. I probably should anyway. I did ask about Anna Tohazadan but got no feedback. I wish I knew what Tohazadan stands for in translation. How does Hears the voice spell out in native language? Thanks, marnie

You keep jumping from one name to another hoping to find a connection. I am beginning to wonder if you even know who your own ancestors were.

Believe me, I know who my ancestors are, but I don't stop there. I'm searching for another family is also looking for relatives, because they don't have the resources to do it themselves. This is my service to the people. Just trying to help as many as possible. Some are just now starting to research their family history. SZ

Sherwyn, I can relate and do the same thing. That is how things are done in Indian Country. I am sure I look like I am doing the same thing when actually I am not even trying to connect myself!! When I come across a family that is desperate or discouraged, I cant help but see what I might ask or find out that can help them. If I am not mistaken, that is what this site is for. I see nothing wrong with jumping around and asking names in any case.
( From, now on when I come to this board, I am going to go stand by Sherwyn in the scrambling around and looking for lots of people and trying to help everyone section! )

I am sorry I am not familiar with the Crow Creek St John family, and I actually should be or hope to be in the future. The are my relatives. All I have known on them is that there is a connnection between them and the Sisseton St John family in that the family from Crow Creek all desend from a man named Solomon, I think and he is a brother (?) of Moses St John of Sisseton. The Sisseton family name comes from a man possibly non-indian or mixed named Victor St John. If I understand the history told to me, Victor is the father of Soloman as well. I have been going over the Sisseton St John family and do not see a Peter at all and so he is not from the Sisseton Agency. I am sending you to your email address a census image I had from searching St John in Hughes county in 1930. It shows Peter St John b 1872 and wife Jennie St John. The is also someone living with them named Not Afraid of Bear.

Hey thanks Sherwyn for helping out. I end up doing this to because of how people are connected into the Frazier and Tuttle line. If I have the information I am more than willing to share it. Besides who wants this forum to be just about getting on the list forum (I think there is already on of these). We should want it to be about finding our roots and being happy to find eachother forum.
Have a wonderful Spring day

Thanks very much to all of you that freely help us with whatever info you have to share. I may or not find my connection but I feel that there is one. I am related to the Trudells, Lawrences, Goodteachers, Henrys, Johnsons, so I will keep trying until I have no more hope. marnie
